Organizations

How personal spaces, organizations, workspaces, and wallets fit together, and when to set up an organization.

An account in the console is either your personal space or an organization. Both have the same building blocks. Organizations add people.

The model#

Organization
├── Members who is in the account and what role they have
├── Wallet one prepaid balance for the whole organization
└── Workspaces separate environments or teams
└── API keys each key belongs to one workspace
PartWhat it is for
OrganizationThe account boundary. It holds the people and the money.
WorkspaceA way to separate usage, keys, and spend inside an organization, such as production and staging, or one team and another.
WalletThe balance requests are paid from. There is one per organization, shared by all of its workspaces. See Credits.
BudgetA spend limit on a workspace or a member. See Budgets.

Personal space#

Every account starts with a personal space. It has its own wallet and a default workspace, and it is just you, so there are no members to manage and no organization-wide analytics. For solo use, this is usually enough.

Create an organization#

Create one when more than one person needs to use the same keys, balance, or reporting.

  1. In the console, open the switcher at the bottom of the sidebar. Click Set up an organization (shown as New organization if you already belong to one).
  2. Name it and choose an icon.
  3. Invite people now, or skip and do it later from Members.

You become an admin of the organization you create.

Three things to know before you create one:

  • Its balance is separate and starts at $0. Credits in your personal space, or in any other organization, are not moved over.
  • It is billed at standard prices. Any discount on your personal account does not carry over.
  • Private model access is not shared. If your personal account has been given access to a private model, an organization you create does not get it automatically. See Access controls.

There is a limit on how many organizations one person can create. The console shows how many you have created, and the New organization button explains when you have reached it. Organizations you were invited to do not count toward the limit. To raise the limit, contact support.

Switch between accounts#

The switcher at the bottom of the sidebar lists your personal space and every organization you belong to. The address in your browser includes the organization and workspace, so a link to a page opens the same page for anyone with access.
