A workspace is a separate environment inside an organization. Keys, usage, and spend are tracked per workspace, so production traffic stays apart from experiments, and one team's spend stays apart from another's.

## The default workspace

Every organization and every personal space starts with a default workspace. You can change its icon, but not its name. Create more when you need them.

## Create a workspace

Open **Workspaces** in the sidebar and click **New workspace**, or use **New workspace** in the workspace switcher at the top of the sidebar. Give it a name and an icon.

Who can create one: admins of an organization, and the owner of a personal space.

Names do not have to be unique. There is a limit on the number of workspaces per account. The Workspaces page shows how many you have used, and the button explains when you have reached the limit. Deleting a workspace you no longer use frees a slot.

## What lives in a workspace

- **API keys.** Each key belongs to one workspace, and that cannot be changed after the key is created. See [API keys](/docs/api-keys).
- **Usage.** The Usage page shows requests, tokens, and spend for the current workspace. You can also view usage across all workspaces. See [Usage & analytics](/docs/usage-and-analytics).
- **A budget.** An optional daily, weekly, and monthly spend limit for everything in the workspace. See [Budgets](/docs/budgets).

The wallet is not per workspace. All workspaces in an organization are paid from the same balance.

## New workspaces have no spend limit

A new workspace starts without a budget. If you use budgets to cap spend, set one on each new workspace. The Budgets page lists workspaces that do not have one yet.

## Switch workspace

The workspace switcher at the top of the sidebar changes the current workspace. The workspace is part of the page address, so the keys and usage on a page always belong to the workspace in the URL.

## Delete a workspace

Admins of an organization, and the owner of a personal space, can delete a workspace from the Workspaces page. Deleting it **disables every API key in it**, and the console tells you how many keys were disabled. Requests with those keys start failing with a `401`.

Spend in a deleted workspace still counts toward organization analytics for that period, because the money was spent.
